Northern pike are native to Montana in the Saskatchewan river drainage (east of Glacier National Park), although they have been introduced to many Montana waters outside their native range. They are warm water fish, preferring reservoirs, lakes, and large rivers with slower moving water. Much like Muskie, giant pike like to eat big fish.
We love to target trophy pike in shallow water during the spring. The hunt for pike is typically spot-and-stalk for a true apex predator that will devour anything in sight. Pike are extremely aggressive when feeding, and will hit your line with an intensity rarely experienced in fresh water fishing.
We recommend at least an eight weight fly rod with sink tip line. You will frequently cast a 10 to 14 inch streamer pattern or light spinning gear.
